Helpful Hints to Save You Money

The key to a successful, economical, and efficient move is all the preparation. The following should help you accomplish the task of preparing for your move.

First and foremost, pack yourself

Packing is the number one way to save. Use the proper materials and do not hesitate to ask for advice. Be sure to tape each box top & bottom.

Avoid liquor store boxes.  For example: we are able to move 50 medium size boxes a lot faster than 100 small liquor store boxes thus saving you time & money.

If you’d rather leave the packing to a professional, Mooney’s Moving & Storage offers packing assistance.

Dismantling and reassembly

Anytime your movers have to use tools to dismantle or reassemble an item, more time is used. Remember for local moves, your final cost is based on the actual time taken. If possible have items requiring tools (i.e. beds, cribs, washer, dryer, icemaker, exercise equipment) taken care of prior to moving day.

Centralize your boxes

Typically boxes will make up 15% to 20% of your total shipment. As you pack, move your boxes to a central area like the garage or front room. Less time is involved moving them from a central area rather than having them spread throughout the house. More time and money can be saved if your boxes are delivered to a central area at your destination.

Do not move items that will not be used at your new home (i.e. books, record albums, exercise equipment, rugs, old tools). You do not need to furnish the attic.

Donate to Your Favorite Charity

After you’ve decided what items you no longer need, consider donating them to charity. Itemizing items and keeping donation receipts may help you qualify for a tax deduction.

Ask Friends
For Help

Having your friends and family around to help out on or before moving day will help you get the job done more quickly than you would alone and help keep you organized.

Be Available on Moving Day

It is important for you to be available to your movers to help coordinate and answer questions while loading and unloading your moving truck.

If the descriptions of your move changes from what you described to your estimator, it is imperative that you make your mover aware prior to moving day. Our movers will be prepared to pack only the items listed on your estimate.

We only move empty freezers/refrigerators. Also, be sure to have waters lines/gas lines disconnected prior to our arrival or secure the services of a plumber ahead of time.

Flat Screen Televisions

We do not mount or unmount anything to/from the wall.
